Internships

NOVA offers internships to senior undergraduate and graduate students designed to provide practical field experience in a variety of subject areas including counseling, social work, criminal justice, public health, and nonprofit management. Internships in Counseling or Advocacy require a commitment of at least one year in length to participate. Clinical Counselor I & II

NOVA (Network of Victim Assistance), a community-based 501(c)3, is the comprehensive victim services organization in Bucks County. With a 50-year history, NOVA has expanded to include a continuum of prevention and direct services to prevent and address the needs of victims of sexual abuse and other serious crimes. Establishing sustainability is key to our future success – serving all victims who need assistance, reducing personal violence through education, and advancing the field.

Clinical Counselor I and II. NOVA is hiring two counselors to join our counseling department. Clinical Counselor I must be licensed or soon to be licensed in the field of social work, clinical counseling, psychology or other relevant field within one year post hire. Counselor II must have a Masters level in the field of social work, clinical counseling, psychology or other relevant field. Both must have experience working with individuals and families. Our team provides a continuum of trauma informed evidence-based therapeutic modalities, such as Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma Processing Yoga Groups (TPY) and Problematic Sexual Behavior – Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (PSB-CBT), to children and adults who are the victims of sexual assault and other serious crimes. This position would require participating in individual and group supervisions and carrying a full caseload of clients who are victims of crime and abuse, including their significant others.

All of our counseling services are free to victims, and are supported by public and private dollars. Annually we serve over 650 victims in individual or group counseling. Sessions may be provided in the client’s home, community, local schools, via telehealth and/or one of NOVA’s three offices.

Both positions will require the ability to travel throughout the county but will based primarily in Fairless Hills, PA and assume at least two evenings per week.

Qualifications include:

  • Clinical Counselor I – Masters’ degree and licensure or soon to be licensed (within one year) in social work, counseling, psychology or other relevant field.
  • Clinical Counselor II – Masters’ degree in social work, counseling, psychology or other relevant field.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working clinically with children, adults, and families.
  • TFCBT and EMDR certification preferred, or training must be completed within two years posthire.
  • Sexual Assault Counselor (SAC) training certificate or must attend the 40-hour SAC Training at NOVA within 3-months post-hire.
  • Must be able to work 2 evenings per week and provide on-call coverage for the Chat/Text/Phone Hotline as assigned during the day.
  • Must have available transportation to travel to all three of NOVA’s offices, schools and clients’ homes as needed.
  • Bilingual/multilingual preferred.
  • Highly values teamwork.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word.
  • Experience working with client data systems preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Current criminal, child abuse and FBI clearance is required before hire.

Full-Time Counseling Intake Specialist

Counseling Intake Specialist. NOVA is hiring a Counseling Intake Specialist to join our Counseling Department of 10 counselors. The Counseling Intake Specialist provides comprehensive, coordinated support and services to victims and non-offending significant others. They will also provide the initial contact for potential clients and provide case management and referrals as needed. The Counseling Intake Specialist will complete initial assessments as required by the counseling department’s various evidence-based programs. The counseling department provides a continuum of trauma-informed, evidence-based therapeutic modalities to victims of crime and other serious crimes, including sexual assault, homicide, human trafficking, fraud, and other serious crimes. All our counseling services are free to victims and are supported by public and private dollars.

The position will require traveling throughout Bucks County to provide in the office and school (the main offices are in Perkasie, Jamison, and Fairless Hills) and assuming two evening shifts per week until 8 pm.

Responsibilities:

Agency Outreach

  • Maintains relationships within the community to promote victim access to NOVA services.
  • Liaisons and collaborations with other organizations serving the victims of crime to promote victim access to NOVA services.
  • Meets with potential clients in any of the three NOVA offices, in the community, or virtually.

Service Provision

  • Completes initial contact for potential clients as assigned within three business days.
  • Provides high-quality and effective crisis intervention support and short-term counseling to clients and their significant others, including providing referrals to other providers as needed.
  • Completes all initial assessments and consent paperwork for clients as appropriate per counseling modality.
  • Works with all NOVA counselors regarding caseloads, including availability for new cases.
  • Provides case management and follow-up services for clients as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with other agencies that provide services supportive of and needed by NOVA clients.
  • Provides hotline coverage and emergency room accompaniment as needed.
  • Provide psychoeducation groups for new clients on a waiting list as deemed appropriate and determined by the Senior Counselors.
  • Provides Restoring Families administrative work and group continuously.

Internal Agency Administration

  • Meets regularly with the Senior Counselor for supervision and support.
  • Meets regularly with counseling staff regarding the operation of the counseling program.
  • Communicates and collaborates with other agency staff to manage referrals to the counseling program.
  • Adheres to all agency policies and procedures (e.g., confidentiality).
  • Participates in staff meetings at all levels of the agency as appropriate or as assigned.
  • Maintains client files following procedures developed by the Director of Client Services.
  • Completes and submits all required, relevant, and assigned paperwork promptly and accurately.
  • Participates in agency activities such as staff retreats, special events, volunteer recognition events, and fundraising as appropriate.
  • Attending team meetings as appropriate.

Staff Development

  • Participates in staff and professional development activities/training to increase knowledge and contribute to the effectiveness of NOVA services.
  • Stays abreast of information concerning child victims of crime, counseling techniques, and interventions.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to NOVA’s mission.
  • Master’s level required in social work, human services, counseling, or relevant field.
  • At least two years of relevant direct service experience.
  • Consistent and reliable access to and availability of means of transportation (position requires travel).
  • Available to work at least two evenings per week until 8:00 p.m. and provide on-call coverage for the Hotline and emergency room accompaniment when assigned.
  • Meet all required clearances for employment (e.g., IRCA, Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Clearance, etc.).

Family Support Advocate - Full-time

NOVA (Network of Victim Assistance) is the comprehensive victim services organization in Bucks County. NOVA is known across many disciplines and the community at large for its exceptional services and professionalism. As a mature and fiscally sound organization, establishing sustainability is key to our future success — serving all victims who need assistance, educating the community on violence prevention, and providing top-ranked professional training. 

Located in Bucks County, PA, the Bucks County Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), a service of NOVA, provides a safe and child-friendly environment in which the CAC staff, law enforcement, child welfare, prosecution, advocacy, medical and mental health professionals collaborate to implement effective and coordinated investigations of suspected child abuse and connect child victims and their families to medical, mental health, and other social services. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Provides advocacy, crisis support, and case management services to victims of child abuse and their non-offending caregivers.  
  • Plays a crucial role in supporting the child and their families during the investigative process.  
  • Collaborates with law enforcement and child protective services through advocacy, training, and outreach. 
  • Supports the child victims and their families at Jamison, Fairless Hills, and Perkasie offices in Bucks County, PA. 

 Qualifications: 

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, criminology, human services, or another related field. Master’s preferred of the criminal justice/legal system. 
  • Knowledge of issues essential and relevant to providing services to victims of violent crimes. 
  • Experience working with child victims or other victims of crime preferred. 
  • Ability to work and make decisions independently. 
  • Strong interpersonal communication, writing, and presentation skills. 
  • Consistent and reliable access to transportation. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule. 
  • Meet all required clearances for employment (e.g., IRCA, Criminal Record Check, etc.) 
  • Bilingual is a plus. 

 

 NOVA is an AA/EOE. The compensation package includes the following components: 

  • $39K-$50K Annual salary

Forensic Nurse Examiner - Part-time

NOVA is the comprehensive victim services organization in Bucks County. NOVA is known for its exceptional services and professionalism across many disciplines and the community.  As a mature and fiscally sound organization, establishing sustainability is key to our future success — serving all victims who need assistance, educating the community on violence prevention, and providing top-ranked professional training.   

Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) will provide care to the sexual assault and interpersonal violence victim in a timely, non-judgmental, dignified, and compassionate manner. The service provided may include a forensic exam, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, written/electronic and photographic documentation, referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, and participation in legal proceedings. The FNE is expected to follow protocols established by NOVA and participating hospitals.

Responsibilities:

  • Possesses a thorough theoretical knowledge of the management of the sexual assault and interpersonal violence (IPV) patient, the collection of biological forensic/trace samples, and the maintenance of the chain of custody.
  • Works collaboratively with hospital medical personnel, victim advocates, law enforcement, and prosecutors.
  • Adheres to all administrative, clinical, and employment policies and procedures on file with the forensic nurse program.
  • Ability to perform emergent medical triage to determine if the patient requires medical care before a forensic exam.
  • Performs and accurately documents sexual assault and IPV medical forensic interviews.
  • Performs and objectively documents a complete physical and forensic evidence collection exam, including as needed:
    • Head-to-toe medical assessment for trauma, detailed genital/anal examination;
    • Forensic specimen collection and supportive documentation;
    • Photo documentation of bodily and genital-anal injuries with competent documentation;
    • Assess for mandatory reporting status and report when appropriate;
    • Work cooperatively with law enforcement to maintain chain of custody and adhere to evidence integrity guidelines;
    • Ensure patient/medical confidentiality at all times (HIPAA);
    • Maintain professional standards that do not create a conflict of interest with employment or patient care;
    • Provide clear, concise, accurate, and objective written/electronic documentation.
  • Ensures the administration of appropriate prophylactic medications per protocol.
  • Provides testimony as a fact witness to any/all cases performed while contracted as an FNE

*Following employment/termination as an FNP with NOVA, the individual RN will be obligated to respond and coordinate with attorneys before and during the court process*

  • Thirty-two (32) minimum on-call hours per month, including shared holiday and weekend coverage.
  • A recommended minimum of five adult exams performed within 12 months, with completion of continuing education, case studies, literature reviews, and chart reviews.
  • Participates in professional development as determined by the FNP Coordinator, including 75% of all staff/case review meetings, conferences, and in-services.
  • Maintains active email and cell phone/text access for routine staff-wide interface and communication.
  • Leaves the FNE room with equipment properly stored and supplies returned to the appropriate place.
  • Maintains equipment in proper working condition and exercises fiscal responsibility for ED resources.
  • Completes FNE invoice and forwards to FNP Coordinator per policy.
  • Maintains open communication with the FNP Coordinator.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to NOVA’s mission, values, and vision.
  • Must meet credentialing requirements as outlined in the NOVA FNE Contract.
  • Minimum two years of nursing experience required; specialty experience in women’s health, emergency department, intensive care, or trauma.   Must be able to demonstrate autonomy and professional judgment in nursing practice.
  • Completes IPV didactic training
  • Candidates must have an active unrestricted RN license to practice in Pennsylvania
  •  Preferred certification in forensic nursing adult/adolescent/pediatrics.
  • Proficient use of all equipment.
  • Consistent and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to arrive at the designated hospital within one hour of receiving the request for services. The exception is Grandview Hospital, where a one to two-hour response is acceptable depending on the distance from the primary residence.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Maintenance of FNE Credentials:

  • Actively conducted Forensic Nurse exams in Pennsylvania with no lapse of service over six months.
  • Maintain mandatory clinical education hours with at least eight (8) hours relevant to sexual assault/ forensics.
  • Attend a minimum of two court proceedings per calendar year (mock trial or other training as deemed equivalent by the FNP Coordinator).
  • Debrief as needed to maintain emotional and physical wellness.
  • Share individual expertise with other FNE members.
