CHOOSE BOOZE
MANY LOOSE
Choose Booze
Many Lose is a
dramatic,
emotional,
educational and
effective
two-day program
demonstrating to
high school
seniors the
devastating
consequences of
drinking and
driving. Rather
than
just using
lectures, it
allows students
to get a glimpse
into what it
feels like to be
a victim of an
alcohol-
related crash.
This year's
programs will
held during prom
season at all
three Central
Bucks High
Schools and
Truman High
School in
Bristol.
Day One:
To demonstrate
how often a
person is killed
by a drunk
driver, at
30-minute
intervals during
the day, 20
pre-selected
students will be
pulled from the
classroom. The
student's
obituary,
written by the
parents,
will be read to
the class and
posted in a
central
location. The
students will be
"ghosted" with
white make-up.
Because he or
she now
represents
someone killed
by a drunk
driver, they are
instructed not
to interact
with anyone for
the remainder of
the school day.
Throughout the
day, police
officers will be
delivering
death
notifications to
the parents.
During the crash
reenactment,
students dressed
in prom attire
are placed in
two vehicles
while the entire
senior class
looks on. Local
police, fire
departments and
EMT's respond to
the crash scene.
Three
students are
pronounced dead
at the scene,
two are
transported to a
local hospital
and the drunk
driver is
field tested,
arrested and
arraigned. Mock
resuscitation
attempts will be
made on the
students at the
hospital and
parents will
receive their
child's death
notification
from the doctor.
Evening of
Day One:
The student
participants
will be
transported a
local hotel for
evening sessions
and an overnight
stay. The
sessions include
victim speakers
and a roundtable
discussion of
the day's
events. The
students will be
asked to write
goodbye letters
to their
family.
At a nearby
location, a
similar session
will be held for
the parents.
Day Two:
An assembly is
held for the
entire senior
class. After
brief victim
presentations
and a video of
the prior
day's events,
the students
read their
goodbye letters.
Students are
then reunited
with their
families.
The program is
sponsored by the
Bucks County
Chapter of
Mothers Against
Drunk Driving,
DEEP, NOVA,
BCCAAD and
emergency
services of
Bucks County.
NOVA staff and
volunteers are
available
throughout the
two days to
provide
counseling and
support to the
students,
parents and
school personnel
involved in the
very emotional
program.
