NOVA was awarded a grant from Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to bring Trauma Informed Yoga Groups to NOVA’s clients. Extensive research through Bessel van der Kolk’s Trauma Center has proven that yoga is an effective strategy for treating the symptoms of post-traumatic stress. Survivors of sexual trauma often struggle with feeling unsafe and out of control in their own bodies. Trauma informed yoga strategies can enable survivors to build feelings of empowerment, safety, grounding, and control in their bodies, which can in turn aid greatly in their healing process. NOVA Counselors will be trained in Trauma Informed Yoga practices this summer, and plan to start groups for teens and adults this fall.
